Melissa Hanson has worked in the commercial real estate finance and accounting field for 7 years, with experience across retail, office, and multi-family product types. Prior to joining Brick Lane, Melissa worked for Monro, Inc. in their real estate accounting group where she was responsible for financial reporting for over 1,100 company-operated stores across the southern and eastern United States. Melissa joined Monro out of business school, during which she worked for Pacific Life Insurance in their Real Estate Investments division where she provided underwriting support for $1.2B+ of commercial real estate investments including whole loans, loan participations, equity partnerships, and CMBS.
Melissa’s additional previous experiences includes 3 years as a Financial Analyst at JLL in their Corporate Solutions division providing finance and accounting support for a portfolio of over 1,000 office properties across North America and 1 year as a Staff Accountant at First Allied Corporation with responsibility for financial reporting for 60+ retail properties across the United States. In January 2014, Melissa earned her CPA designation and she is certified in the State of California.
Melissa has a Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Real Estate Finance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School (2017) as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Accounting from the University of California at Los Angeles (2010). Melissa is originally from San Diego and has recently relocated to Washington, DC as of October 2018.
